Product Design

(Project description)

As the primary creative force behind the product and user experience at Alpaca Notify, I helped design a platform that delivered alerts and notifications directly to student and staff ChromeOS devices. My primary goal was to leverage my background in traditional graphic design to ensure interaction with the product was intuitive and visually appealing. The product itself was a simple and straightforward web portal that made it easy for staff to send and receive customizable notifications on-demand, at a scheduled date and time, or on a recurring basis.

(Design challenge)

(Design challenge)

I joined the Alpaca team with the goal of  implementing a user-centered design approach and total redesign of the app's MVP (Minimum Viable Product) version. The core technology was already in place, but the application needed a fresh, more usable look to cater to the needs of school administrators. The main challenge was to create a seamless user experience that was both intuitive and visually appealing, handling complex functionalities like customizable notifications and scheduled or recurring alerts with a clean, approachable user interface. Additionally, I also worked on several marketing projects for the platform, including a motion product explainer to help attract new users.

(The process)

(The process)

The process for this project was centered on a clear, systematic approach. The team and I began with a clear feature list, then held several meetings where we talked through the user journeys for completing each task. My process started with rough wireframes on paper, which I then used to digitize and create high-fidelity mockups. These mockups served as the blueprint for the developers, ensuring a seamless translation from design to code.

(Key takeaways)

(Key takeaways)

This was the first time I was solely responsible for an entire product, and it proved to be a pivotal learning period in my product design career. I learned a lot about being a designer in a multidisciplinary development team, working closely with the founders and fielding countless feedback sessions. This project provided invaluable experience in translating complex technical features into a simple, intuitive user experience and solidified my confidence in tackling a diverse range of creative challenges.
